About David J. Hudson

David is the founder of Creating Your Own Labels (CYOL) — a movement rooted in one powerful truth: you are not confined to the labels you were given. You can choose your own.

Born in the South, David spent his teenage years between South Carolina and New Jersey, learning early what it meant to move between worlds — culturally, socially, and internally. After earning his Bachelor of Science in General Studies with an emphasis in Counseling from the University of South Carolina, along with certifications in Interactive Multimedia, Video Production, Editing, and Sound, he built a professional career grounded in digital strategy, content systems, and structured thinking.

But CYOL was never just a business idea.

It was lived.

For years, David observed how people quietly accepted labels placed on them by family, society, circumstance, and even self-doubt. Success. Failure. Overweight. Introvert. Too late. Not enough.
And then one day, he asked a different question:

What if we could choose our own?

Brotherhood, Identity & Legacy

As a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., David understands the power of collective identity, legacy, leadership, and brotherhood. Fraternity life reinforced something he already felt deeply — that identity is both personal and communal. We are shaped by tribe, but we also shape who we become.

David has also served as a volunteer with the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC since 2016, welcoming visitors from around the world and contributing to the museum’s mission of preserving and sharing African American history and culture. The experience deepened his appreciation for how history, storytelling, and identity shape the way individuals and communities see themselves. In recognition of his years of service, he was later invited to hold Emeritus volunteer status with the museum.

That awareness now fuels the CYOL movement.

Because choosing your own labels doesn’t isolate you — it empowers you to show up differently in community.

Same Life. New Labels.

CYOL began as a realization.
Then it became a practice.
Now it is a movement.

Through books, workshops, private sessions, and guided meditations, David helps individuals pause long enough to examine the labels they’re carrying — and decide which ones still fit.

His first handbook, Creating Your Own Labels: The Movement Handbook (Volume 1), invites readers into a direct and reflective process of reclaiming identity. It is not about becoming someone else. It is about consciously choosing who you are — right now.

The Panama Chapter

In 2026, David begins his next intentional label — relocating to Panama City, Panama.

What started as a visit evolved into vision. What felt like curiosity became calling.

Panama represents expansion. Simplicity. Global connection. A conscious shift from routine to design. This next chapter reflects the very heart of CYOL: life does not have to happen to you. You can choose it.

The Work

David speaks, facilitates interactive workshops, and offers 1-on-1 private sessions designed to help individuals

  • Reevaluate inherited labels
 • Identify limiting narratives
 • Claim empowering identity statements
 • Align daily habits with chosen labels

Workshops are reflective and participatory — never passive. Attendees leave with language they can carry forward immediately.

The Philosophy

Labels are powerful.
They can restrict.
They can define.
They can liberate.

The difference is who chooses them.

David’s work is not about reinvention for applause.
It’s about alignment for peace.

It’s about standing in the mirror and saying:

“I am who I say I am.”

And meaning it.
