Before I Realized It
Long before I ever said the words Creating Your Own Labels, the movement had already begun quietly forming inside me — not as a concept, but as a seed planted in everyday encounters I didn’t yet know how to name.
I’ve always believed that shopkeepers, street vendors, artists, and service providers are more than people selling something.
They are messengers.
They stand at the intersections of movement and pause.
They meet people mid-stride.
They exchange more than products — they exchange moments, words, energy, and sometimes truth.
Some of the messages they offer arrive crystal clear.
Others don’t make sense until much later.
But every encounter leaves something behind.
I didn’t realize it then, but I was always listening.
The First Seed (15 Years Ago, Atlanta)
The origin traces back to one of my visits to Atlanta around fifteen years ago. Friends brought me to Atlantic Station, where a street magician was captivating a small crowd with humor, card tricks, and a little unexpected wisdom woven between illusions.
He called himself Eric the Magician with a Message.
I didn’t know it then, but that brief encounter planted something in me.
The Return (5 Years Ago)
Life brought me back to Atlanta five years ago — and this time for real. I bought a condo at Atlantic Station, and there he was again: Eric. Same corner. Same charisma. Same way of making people pause and think.
Life brought me back to Atlanta five years ago — and this time for real. I bought a condo at Atlantic Station, and there he was again: Eric. Same corner. Same charisma. Same way of making people pause, reflect, and reconsider what they thought they knew.
People jokingly referred to me as the unofficial mayor of the Greens — that central gathering space where vendors set up and where Eric performed. I loved the energy of the place:
Sunlight.
Movement.
Community.
Laughter in the air.
People smiling.
Strangers connecting.
Music drifting by.
People passing through — but fully present.
The Atlantic Station Greens feel like a getaway without ever leaving the city.
Vacation energy — right in the middle of real, everyday life.
And it’s where messengers gathered.
Vendors selling jewelry, clothing, art, experiences, ideas.
Each one offering more than a transaction.
Each one holding a conversation that often went beyond the sale.
Some spoke words that landed immediately.
Others spoke things I didn’t yet have ears to hear.
But inside, I was in another transition.
Working a job that paid the bills but drained the spirit.
Wanting a life that felt lighter, freer, more mine.
And not knowing where to begin.
Eric and I would talk often — about life, purpose, meaning, and the little choices that lead to big shifts. That’s when I learned he ran workshops for public speakers and offered mentoring.
During one of those conversations, I felt the first stirrings of possibility. A seed waking up.
He invited me to one of his sessions — and though fear whispered the usual doubts (“Can I really do something outside the 9 to 5?”), I went.
The seed took root.
The Slow Growing Season
Even after the workshop, I still didn’t know what kind of life would grow from this moment — or how fast. I would run into Eric during my “mayoral duties,” and each time he offered encouragement without pressure.
It felt like he knew:
The seed would sprout in its own season.
For a while, life unfolded quietly. The seed remained underground, gathering strength.
The Breakthrough (2025)
2025 arrived with the energy of a turning point. I attended another of Eric’s workshops — and this time something shifted. Not gently. Not gradually.
The seed broke through the soil.
Soon after, I went on a tour of Panama City, a place I had long researched as a potential retirement destination. But being there changed everything.
I didn’t just feel interested in Panama.
I felt called to it.
I returned knowing with absolute clarity:
Panama is my next home.
I came back with a contact on a condo, excitement in my chest, and momentum that felt supernatural — like someone had sprinkled Miracle-Gro on my life.
And then, unexpectedly, my work contract was terminated.
Security vanished.
The plan shifted beneath my feet.
But the seed — the movement — the calling?
It kept growing.
The Genesis Revealed
Only then could I finally see the truth:
Creating Your Own Labels didn’t begin in 2025.
It began the moment I first questioned who I was — and who I could be.
It grew with every transition.
Every fear.
Every conversation with someone who saw more in me than I saw in myself.
The movement bloomed the moment I stepped beyond the safety of “what I’ve always done” and walked toward the life I choose.
It began as a seed.
It became a path.
And today, it is a movement — not just for me, but for anyone ready to plant a new label and grow into a more honest, self-defined version of themselves.
